Since its founding in 1984 by Phuket-born Khun Sombat Atiset, Katathani has devoted considerable effort to modeling environmental, economic, and social initiatives. Dedication to community service helped Katathani grow from a few small bungalows into a world renowned destination conserving over 60% of its land holdings while employing over 600 locals. Katathani's dedication to community service, the local economy and nature is perpetuated by regular efforts to educate local students and other important stakeholders about innovative sustainability initiatives:

The land behind Katathani supports an 18 billion liter capacity rain catchment reservoir which eases strain on the limited island water supply. Katathani operates its own waste water treatment plant that recycles 100% of the local community and hotel's grey water that is reused to irrigate organic tropical gardens.

Ko Green is a line of organic cleaning resources created at Katathani and derived from all-organic and biodegradable material used for 100% of our cleaning needs.

Pioneers in solar energy since twenty years, solar provides for most our water-heating. Diesel trucks were re-engineered to run on spent cooking oil (bio-diesel) and we use efficient light bulbs plus energy saving central air conditioning.

The Zero-Waste compost and recycling project involves meticulously separating inorganic wastes (paper, glass plastic and metal) while all bio-degradable waste is composted and used as mulch to fertilize the resort's gardens.

"Going Green" has saved Katathani millions of dollars in waste management, water, chemical and energy costs. Through our philanthropic branch, We Love the Hometown Foundation funds are returned to the local community for supporting all types of local facilities including public schools, hospitals, and public lifeguards.
