I was getting ready to go out with my friend on a Friday night in August 2009, thinking it would just be another regular night, nothing special. Little did I know I would be meeting my future husband in just a couple of hours.
We were at the same bar and he started chatting to me. I thought at first that he liked to talk about himself a lot! But he seemed very interested in me too and my interest in him grew as well, as we talked a lot and there weren't any silences. I thought this was a very good sign!
He took my number and when I told him where I was working the next day, he told me he would bring me breakfast into the store. I didn't believe him, but sure enough, he turned up, food in hand (even if it was closer to lunchtime by that point!)
I was impressed, and he said he wanted to take me to this nice restaurant for dinner as soon as possible. I wasn't free for dinner for another few days, so he ended up picking me up for our first official date the next morning - breakfast and a visit to the aquarium. We had so much fun and he made me laugh. I think we both already knew that this wasn't just a casual thing. We spent the whole day together and within just weeks, we were head over heels for one another.
One year later, full of nerves but keeping his cool, Matt asked me to marry him. I said yes straight away. I think we'd already both known for a long time that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.
We had a long engagement as we were living in Broome at the time (about a 2.5 hour plane ride north of Perth) and wanted to have time to organise the wedding. There was no argument at all when it came to deciding on a location - we had already been to Phuket, Thailand twice together and it seemed a perfect idea to have our wedding there.
In March 2012, we flew over to Phuket to check out a few different venues. The first on the list was Katathani. I didn't even need to look at anything else afterwards, so I cancelled my appointments with the other resorts.
I met Satinee Khamdee and she was so helpful. She didn't know that we were going to book with her but she still made me feel so special, like we had already booked our wedding in. I fell in love with the resort and everything it had to offer for weddings, and Matt did too when he saw the photos l took.
As soon as we returned home to Perth, I emailed Satinee to lock in our wedding date. We did not want to miss out on such a beautiful opportunity!
When the big day finally arrived on 25th January, 2013, everything ran so smoothly. Katathani understands that brides, grooms and their families are full of emotions on the day so they go out of their way to make sure you don't have to worry about anything.
As I walked down the aisle towards the man I was about to spend the rest of my life with, I had no doubts, only feelings of complete elation, excitement and of course love. We both fought so hard to hold the tears back but by the time I reached the arch, he took my hands in his and I felt calm.
Matt makes me laugh every day and we are so happy to have found one another.
Our whole wedding day was magical and we couldn't have imagined getting married anywhere else.
